Treatment of Retinal Diseases

We offer state of the art imaging and diagnostic techniques for all forms of retinal diseases.  Some forms of retinal diseases such as wet macular degeneration, vein occlusions, and diabetic macular edema benefit from injections into the eye. While this may sound unpleasant, most patients feel little or no pain, thanks to anesthetics.  While diseases such as wet macular degeneration used to carry a very poor prognosis, now with modern treatment the prognosis is often very good.  We offer the full variety of intravitreal medications including Avastin®, Eyelea®, Lucentis®, and Oxurdex®.

A 67 year-old female presented with metamorphopsia (distorted vision) and was found to have choroidal neovascularization with macular edema from wet macular degeneration. The top photo shows black areas in the retina where there was bleeding and swelling from wet macular degeneration. After one injection of Lucentis®, the swelling was substantially reduced (middle photo) and by the second injection the bleeding was gone (bottom photo). The patient noted dramatic improvement in her vision.  It should be noted that every patient responds differently to the treatments and some patients need more treatments than others.
