Pterygium

Pterygia “surfer’s eye” are fibrovascular growths related to sun exposure that develop from the conjunctiva and grow over the cornea. They can cause irritation, redness, and cause vision loss from astigmatism. Pterygium surgery performed at OSOGB involves the most advanced techniques including conjunctival autografting with fibrin glue, and anti-metabolites and amniotic membranes when appropriate.  With proper technique recurrence of ptergyia is less than 1%.
