lan Gorovoy, MD joined Ophthalmic Surgeons in 2016. He is a skilled surgeon whose expertise includes cataract surgery, corneal/anterior segment surgeries, eyelid surgery, cosmetic procedures such as Botox®, fillers, and Kybella® and comprehensive eye care. He treats his patients in a caring manner and believes in conservative medicine, only recommending surgery when truly indicated.

Dr. Gorovoy graduated with honors from Brown University. He completed medical school at the University of Pittsburgh where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Following residency, Dr. Gorovoy was invited to join the faculty at UCSF where he taught residents surgery and received many accolades for his teaching skills.

Subsequently, he completed an anterior segment fellowship in Florida under the tutelage of his father Mark Gorovoy, a well known ophthalmologist who routinely treats patients who travel from all over the United States for his expertise. During his intensive fellowship, Dr. lan Gorovoy became highly proficient in surgeries including complex cataract surgery, corneal transplants (DMEK, descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty and DSAEK, descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty), intraocular lens suturing/exchange, glaucoma surgeries, pterygium surgeries, and other challenging anterior segment surgeries. Many of the surgeries, such as DMEK and phacoemulsification with scleral handshake intraocular lenses that Dr. Gorovoy performs are not often done in this area because they are technically difficult. Dr. Gorovoy also treats retinal diseases including wet macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema with intravitreal injections. He is well versed in caring for cosmetic and functional eyelid problems such as dermatochalasis, entropion, and ectropion. He was fortunate to have some of the leading oculoplastic surgeons and dermatologists in San Francisco train him in cosmetic procedures such as Botox®, fillers, and Kybella®.
