BOTOX®

Every day we smile, laugh, talk and so on – the results of this include the development of lines and creases as we age.  Of course, we would never want to be void of facial expressions but now we can eliminate the wrinkles that form from these activities with BOTOX™.  Simple treatments can take years off the face making it look less tired and stressed and consequently restore confidence in a person’s appearance.

BOTOX® is an injectable neuromodulator drug that treats wrinkles around the eyes and throughout other areas of the face for up to six months at a time before gradually fading way. Most commonly, BOTOX® is used to treat the horizontal lines of the forehead, the vertical lines between the eyes, and the fine lines around the mouth and eyes (crow’s feet).

BOTOX® is often done by nonphysicians in poorly supervised settings which can result in suboptimal outcomes including a “frozen,” less natural look or ptosis (unsightly drooping of the upper eyelid) for up to several months.  Injectable treatments are often viewed unfavorably because they are many examples of poor execution in plain view on people’s faces. As an ophthalmologist, I am keenly aware of the delicate anatomy of the facial muscles, particularly around the eyes, and am also very skilled at delicate procedures

After a comprehensive consultation here, BOTOX® is administered by Dr. Gorovoy with very small needles and with minimal pain. After the session, patients can typically immediately resume their normal activities.  The results typically take about a week to fully emerge, and patients find that they often need less injections over time as their facial muscles reach a more natural state of relaxation. We ensure very competitive pricing of our BOTOX® and all of our cosmetic procedures.

FILLERS

Like BOTOX®, dermal fillers are injectable treatments that reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, unlike BOTOX®, fillers physically fill in wrinkles and add volume to some hollow-looking areas of the face.  Many fillers today are derivatives of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. As we age, the body produces less hyaluronic acid which leads to the appearance of find wrinkles and loss of facial elasticity. Fillers help replace what has been lost over time and stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. The most popular fillers used here include the JUVEDÉRM® line of fillers such as VOLUMA® and Restylane®.  Treatment plans are individualized to patient goals after careful assessment with the physician, and the injections are always performed by the physician.

Dermal fillers are commonly used for marionette lines, the facial lines that run from the nose to the outer part of the mouth.  The area below the eyes (tear trough fillers) can also be treated which creates a much less tired, youthful appearance to the face.  As an ophthalmologist, I am best equipped to treat the delicate anatomy under and around the eyes.  I find that some patients benefit best from a mix of fillers and BOTOX® at the same sitting to create their optimal appearance.
